This named-for-its-address coffee shop in Inman Square is a little piece of Seattle in Boston. That and an opportunity to get coffee from "edgy" barrista boys with tattoos and eyeliner. Sign me up!

One of the downsides is that it's always really busy - especially on weekends. I love it though. I think before I leave I'm gonna buy a t-shirt so I can wear it in Seattle. Because, you know, I'm far too cool to wear a t-shirt of a coffee shop in the same city but I'll totally do it 3000 miles away.

This one is a blast from the past. Back when Brit lived in Salem we went on all kinds of crazy North Shore expeditions - one of which happened when [livejournal.com profile] chrssybr visited and we headed to the salt marshes in Essex. Original entry here if you want to see more. Sorry for the bad pictures - these were taken on my Sidekick.

Photobucket

But the point of this entry is that if and when I manage to get out of the city I really do find awesome natural-type things that I love around the Boston area.

I'm lucky enough to have friends who are nuts amazing enough to get up at o'dark-thirty and go down to reserve fabulous seats on the Esplanade for the fireworks. It's become a 4th of July tradition!

I was still asleep when they got there, but I headed out around noon - just in time to catch a rainstorm on my way - and spent most of the day hanging around the esplanade. We manage to amuse ourselves:

popcorn

We spend the day hanging out knitting, playing cards, consuming plenty of snacks... There are beautiful views of the river and the boats on it:

The Boston Pops play, there are patriotic sing-alongs, and when it gets late enough there are fireworks.

Even Tesla watched!

I discovered two of my fave food places in Boston because they were right across the street from [livejournal.com profile] caflygrl's old apartment.

Yesterday after my walk through the Victory Gardens I met up with [livejournal.com profile] orionnebula for some dinner. Walking down Peterborough St I get to see one of my favorite door adornments - this gryphon-like creature. It's actually a pair.

gryphon

And a ways down the street, I arrive at food:

fenwayfood

As you can see there's quite a crowd - they're popular places to eat especially when the weather is nice and you can use the outdoor seating. Some of the best Mexican and Thai respectively - both of which are pretty tough to find around Boston.

For the second installment of the Month of Boston, I present the Fenway Victory Gardens. They're located near [livejournal.com profile] orionnebula, and near where [livejournal.com profile] caflygrl used to live. I walk through them when I go to visit, and they're especially pretty in the summer.

Some of the gardens are very neat and obviously have a lot of work and planning put into them.

fvgneat

Others are a little more wild.

fvgwild

Either way they make for a nice smelling and beautiful walk from the bus to a friend's house.

Since it's likely my last full month Boston-ish - final leaving dates are not yet determined, but will likely be before the 31st of August - I've decided to do a month about the things I like in Boston.

First off, the JP Licks teacup on Newbury Street.

I've had an obsession with the teacup since I first laid eyes on it, even telling my friends that if I got a Boston boyfriend and things went well he should propose in the teacup. This event now seems highly unlikely, but I still love the teacup. I've eaten ice cream in it with a couple groups of friends now, and it's the coolest thing about JP Licks for sure.

Hairs

By special request...

On Friday the 13th I cut my hair and donated it to Locks of Love - [livejournal.com profile] theotheramanda requested before and after pics, so here goes:

Long hair:

Short hair:

I like my hair short a lot, actually. I like it long too, but probably not that long. I'm debating about whether to grow it out to donate again (this was my second time if you don't remember) but I'm thinking I might stop it when it gets to about shoulder-length.

A while back I found graffiti with my initials, but today I saw this one. I don't know what that whole part on the top is about, but look in the middle!

Look at this awesome dress!

I totally want it. Not that I'm getting married any time soon or anything, but still!

And here's another pretty picture that I took which didn't make it into the last post.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, [livejournal.com profile] hibrian and I went on a mission Saturday to take pictures. My battery died almost immediately, but we went out again on Sunday morning and I got these:

Caution, there is a spider behind this cut! )

I've arrived in Seattle! (Last night, actually)

I got to the airport, got through security, and then was on the phone with a friend when I heard them start to talk about someone flying to Seattle on my flight (that would be me, I was supposed to transfer in NYC.) So I walked up to the counter and the ticket agent asked if I'd mind switching to fly through Salt Lake City instead, 1st class, and arrive at about the same time. Um, of course not!

So I had a 1st class airplane adventure - I've never flown 1st class before, it was yummy!

Here's the yarn I brought with me on the trip, cuz you know, I must knit constantly.

And here's the house (in West Seattle) where I lived when I was really little.

Buffy!

Last night [livejournal.com profile] orionnebula and I went to the Buffy singalong at the Coolidge theater. I heard about one last year but I think it was after it was over. I've been waiting for one ever since, and when she told me it was going down I was *definitely* there. :)

I got there about 1/2 hour early and waited in line. Supposedly the doors were going to open 10 minutes til 10, but of course at 9:50 we were still waiting. And waiting... and waiting... So we started singing Buffy in line and taking pictures (like the one above).

In this one the white balance is off, because Alexis was pretty close and it was dark out, but I think it just adds to my vampiric good looks. ;)

Once we got in the theater and got our goodie bags (mine had Spike on it!) they had a little intro. Part of that was a live acting of the 'morning after' seen with Buffy and Angel. I then proved that I will do just about anything and make a total fool of myself in public for free movie tickets.

My male lead wasn't all that inspiring, though.

Awww...

"I was waiting for a cross-town train in the London underground when it struck me
That I've been waiting since birth to find a love that would look and sound like a movie

...

I want so badly to believe that there is truth, that love is real
And I want life in every word to the extent that it's absurd"

I went out with a bunch of knitters today. There was fun and craziness, and quite a few pictures!

Here's my (slightly late) Christmas present from my mom. Now the microwave isn't taking up the whole counter!

Image hosting by Photobucket

I put it together myself. With tools! Two types of screwdriver, a hammer, and about eleventy-one different kinds of screws and nails and hinges and other hardware. And it works! (I also finally found a use for the little drawer pulls that Robb got me a couple years ago. Just have to go buy some nuts tomorrow to put on the backs, since these have screws on the pulls and the ones that came with it have screw holes on the pulls.)

Horses!

Today for our after-Christmas adventure, my family (and [livejournal.com profile] meli88's friend Cortnie) went horseback riding.

We waited in the barn and got to know the horses:

And then it was time to ride, and we ventured outside into the light rain (which thankfully stopped soon!)

Pictures behind the cut )

And after an hour we came back to the barn, and my mom snapped this picture of me on Jose just before I dismounted.

I snapped this photo of the lovely [livejournal.com profile] meli88 dressed in a bunch of clothes she got from me.

The hat is my newest knitted creation, the sweashirt was a gift she opened this morning, and the PJ pants I bought for her (2?) years ago.

Now get back to your celebrating, (or your lamenting that nothing is open today), or movies, or whatever. :)

I made a hat for the lovely [livejournal.com profile] hibrian, and there it is. He approves of CTHGSY too.

As promised in the earlier entry. (Excuse the pictures, this episode was taking on my camera phone, which doesn't do well in the dark.)

On Saturday morning CTHGSY and I slept in. Then we went to the mall to go shopping with Brit, of the Britpop hat fame. We did some holiday shopping, then stopped for Starbucks on our way out into the now dark world.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

What a man! Not only did he go shopping with me (and, did I mention, a friend!) but he didn't complain once! We headed over to censored location to buy a present for my little sister, but alas, it was closed. Then we headed on the T.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Brit departed to go to dinner, and CTHGSY accompanied me to a party. Did I say yet what a great guy CTHGSY is? He didn't know anyone at the party, and he still came along with no complaint. He didn't nag me or ask to go home early. He let me mingle and didn't cling to my side the whole party. In fact, we did nothing but what I wanted to do all day! CTHGSY really is a great boyfriend.
