When I started AMoB I confessed to [livejournal.com profile] meli88 that I might not be able to find 31 things that I love and will miss in Boston. Thus far some of them were even a bit of a stretch, but I went with it because things like the egg machine in Lorem Ipsum really *are* the kinds of nutty things that make me unreasonably happy.

So today it's the people. Because when [livejournal.com profile] theotheramanda visited, she commented that I haven't done any people. The thing is that the people I've met in Boston are not a part of a city, they're people in their own right. And I was thinking of things, not people, when I started AMoB. But as I've run out of things (I mean, I know you really want to hear of my love for Trader Joe's, but they have those in Seattle too!)...

There are a few non-tangible things that I'll miss about Boston. First and foremost my friends here. In my four years here I've made some great friends that I'm sure I'll keep in touch with long after I'm on the west coast. The primarily non-LJed Harvard knitting girls, the "yarners", [livejournal.com profile] bryghtrose and [livejournal.com profile] polarg88, the Boston knittyboarders... the list goes on and on, and knitting provides a common thread yarn for many of them.

I'll also miss all of the people that I've had the good fortune of meeting recently and will never really get to know. I'll miss my job and the people there too.

It seems the closer I get to leaving the more I realize how many great people I know here - people that I never knew really liked me that much. This week I've had coworkers ask me to eat lunch with them that I haven't eaten with before, and more than one suggest that we have some sort of goodbye lunch / after-work thing.

I've had a group of knitters who I wasn't particularly close with offer to rearrange the time of their next meeting so that I could attend. I've had my newfound Rock Band acquaintances offer to hold a Rock Band night at their house because there isn't another at River Gods before I leave.

The truth is that things like this always shock me a bit. I draw a pretty hard line between friendly acquaintances and the people I truly call friends, and it's always a bit humbling to have people who I don't consider particularly close do such nice things for me.
