Yesterday morning I knitted through the genetics exam, answering a couple of student questions, and then went straight to grading. When that was completed I went to lab for a bit and then headed to Lowell for the Audioslave/Seether/30 Seconds to Mars show. On the way I finished knitting my camo shrug, and wore it to the show with my camo pants (perfect concert pants, the pockets button!) and my vampire bat tank top.

Due to problems with public transportation it took me a little longer than I expected, but I met Brit in Lowell and we walked to the Arena - arriving just in time to see 30 Seconds to Mars. I was a bit dissapointed with them live - Jared's vocals weren't all that. :( After their set, though, they were upstairs signing CDs (or in my case a T-shirt) and chatting with fans which was very cool.

a bit about Seether, if you care )

Finally (after a very long setup) Audioslave came on. While we were waiting some extremly annoying guys came and stood behind me and started talking loudly, objectifying just about every female in the place. There is not much that I wouldn't prefer to hearing "She's a hot little piece of a@%" and "You take the blue, I'll take the yellow!" and "What would I give to have her sitting on my shoulders..." and "Where are some good old fashioned sluts?" for 30 minutes. I wanted to turn around and punch them, but I restrained myself.

Thankfully Audioslave came on and drowned them out. They played a great set with plenty of Soundgarden and Rage, as well as a good amount of Audioslave and a new (not yet released and unnamed) track. Unfortunately the moshers were particularly inconsiderate. Now, I've been in my share of mosh pits, and I'm a firm believer in moshing manners. Moshing should be an opt-in activity, so if someone is peacefully standing there don't grab them and try to throw them into the mosh pit! If you happen to move to a different part of the floor, where people have been standing relatively still for the last 5 moshable songs, they probably don't want to mosh. So don't start shoving them!

Also, there is a big difference between moshing and throwing punches. Being that I 1. was not particularly interested in moshing, evidenced by the fact that I wasn't doing it and 2. am quite a bit shorter than most moshers - I especially don't want you throwing punches in my direction, since they're about level with my face!

As such I had a crowdsurfer dropped on my head. This made me unhappy. Next a (young) guy standing next to me decided to shove me. I shoved him back, maybe slightly harder than he had shoved me. ;) He looked shocked and got the point.

Otherwise the concert was very enjoyable.

Afterwards, while walking back to Brit's car, we semi-witnessed a pretty bad car accident. I say semi-witnessed because we were too far away to really see what happened. But the gist of it was that one car T-boned another while one of them must have been running a red light. The car which was hit on the side flew into a barrier, setting off the airbags and smashing the windshield. The driver-side door was totally smashed. The other car spun around after hitting the side of the first car, knocking over a traffic light post. All parties got out of the car and appeared to be OK, so Brit called 911 to report the accident and we went on our way.

So that's my exciting Halloween for you.
