I was on a roll for a while there!

Well, yesterday I spent about 12 hours in the LMA (that would be Longwood Medical Area, where I work and school). First I arrived at about 8:25, got some coffee, and headed to class for 3 hours. Then I had a lunch meeting with the Genetics Training Grant people and heard about research while eating 1/2 a sandwich...

Then I headed over to lab and set up my PCR and talked to Josh about microscopy and how to grow my yeast, and I made media. And then I was waiting for my PCR to run (it takes a few hours) so I went and worked out for about an hour. And went back to lab, and poured a gel, and waited a bit for my PCR, and discovered that about 2/3 of the tubes popped open in the machine and evaporated. :(

See, the lid has to come down tight on the tubes so there's a wheel you turn to adjust it. Well, when I closed it it seemed that it was tight enough, but that was because someone had cranked the lid all the way up and got it stuck so it wouldn't turn. One of the guys fixed it afterwards, but the damage was done for my run. Thankfully the tubes that didn't open were good, so I still had some yeast to grow. And I set that up and finally left the lab a little after 8pm.

I was going to go to trivia with some of my classmates, but I was tired so I went home and got some dinner and went to bed because I had to get up early this morning and *drumroll please* go to lab.

I arrived in the LMA at about 8:30 once again, went to visit my buddies at Starbucks, and came to look at my yeast and give it drugs. Then I set up a new PCR for all the ones that popped open, and now I'm waiting for both the PCR and my druggy yeast.
