There's a reason why this journal is called Green Apple Musings: it's because that was the title of my opendiary before blogging was trendy. ;) But today I'll attempt to fulfill my title.

I.

On the walk to the T I saw a sign that read:

"Math keeping you up nights?
Get professional help!"

Now it seems to me that the joke would be apparent to most native English speakers, but not to most others. It just makes me wonder how much I missed in Norway.

II.

Can something be both a fruit and a vegetable?

A tomato, biologically, is a fruit, but many consider it a vegetable. Fruit has a specific biological definition, vegetable doesn't. I always assumed that vegetables were defined by the fact that they're not fruits.

My friend claims, however, that since vegetable is culturally defined, the fact that people think a tomato is a vegetable makes it true, even though it is a fruit.

I think the two are mutually exclusive, thoughts?
